What are behind-the-ear hearing aids?

At Bay Audio, we believe that clear hearing shouldn’t come at the expense of your comfort. We offer a selection of lightweight devices, including behind-the-ear hearing aids (BTE).

BTE models sit behind the ear and deliver amplified sound into the inner ear via a small, clear tube. They are the most popular type of hearing aid, and provide exceptional comfort and flexibility.

How do behind-the-ear hearing aids work?

Like other hearing aids, behind-the-ear hearing aids (BTE) collect, process, and amplify sound for people experiencing hearing loss. Positioned behind the ear, BTEs detect sound from every direction and then deliver it to the inner ear via a clear tube.

Modern BTEs are equipped with additional features including easy volume adjustment, adaptive technology, and artificial intelligence to provide a natural listening experience anywhere you go.

Features of behind-the-ear hearing aids

  • Simple push-button control. Set your hearing how you want it by modifying amplification and adjusting features at any time.
  • Advanced sound detection. Slip into any conversation as your behind-the-ear hearing aids pick up the softest sounds.
  • Larger size for individuals with dexterity issues. Easily equip, adjust, remove and recharge your BTEs without assistance.
  • Bigger batteries enable louder amplification and lasting charge. Enjoy clear, crisp sound for longer.
  • The best connectivity and consistent wireless performance of all hearing aids. Take calls, stream entertainment and more with Bluetooth-enabled BTEs.

Custom-moulded and suitable for smaller ear canals. Experience comfort and enhanced hearing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear glasses with behind-the-ear hearing aids?

Yes, with a little care, you can safely wear your behind-the-ear hearing aids (BTE) and glasses. These are our tips:

1. Choose glasses with thin arms that will allow room for your hearing aids
2. Put your glasses on before fitting your hearing aids
3. Take your glasses off in a forward motion to keep your hearing aids in place

At Bay Audio, we’re dedicated to helping you select a hearing aid that suits your lifestyle. Book a consultation with our expert team to discuss BTEs today.

How do I clean my behind-the-ear hearing aids?

Clean your behind-the-ear hearing aids every day to keep them in top shape. Pass a cleaning thread through the tube to remove wax, and use a special hearing aid brush to clean the sound outlet.
Around once a month, thoroughly clean the surface with antibacterial wipes and brush dust out of the microphones at the back of the hearing aid.
Replace microphone protectors every six months and check the domes and tubes for signs of deterioration.

Are behind-the-ear hearing aids better than in-the-ear hearing aids?

Behind-the-ear hearing aids (BTEs) have advantages over devices that sit further inside the ear canal. It might seem like BTEs would be less comfortable, but they are so light that most people can’t feel them. Plus, thanks to their position outside the ear, they can be equipped with additional features.
On the other hand, in-the-ear hearing aids (ITEs) are more discreet and less likely to be disturbed by wind noise. However, they can cause a “plugged” sensation in the ears that some people find bothersome.
At Bay Audio, we understand how important it is to choose a device that you’re happy with, so we offer a wide range of hearing aids to suit your needs and preferences.

How much do BTE hearing aids cost?

Behind-the-ear hearing aid prices are influenced by the brand, model and the types of technology features included in the device. The dedicated team at Bay Audio can offer you the best options for your budget, preferences, and level of hearing loss. Book an appointment today for expert advice that’s tailored to your needs.
