Our Hearing Tests
If you find yourself turning the television up louder and louder, constantly straining to hear what people are saying, missing the doorbell or phone ringing, or experiencing any similar hearing-related problems, it could be a symptom of hearing loss or impairment.
If you suspect you may be experiencing hearing loss, take our online hearing test or make a booking enquiry today.
Hearing loss can come about so gradually that it’s almost imperceptible to the sufferer. If you’re experiencing even small indications that you might have a hearing loss, it is advisable to visit an audiologist and undergo a hearing test.
It is also recommended that you have your hearing tested regularly when you are over the age of 50 or have been systematically exposed to loud noises throughout your life
About our hearing tests
While a free online hearing test is a valuable resource for those who suspect they are experiencing hearing loss, it is important to visit an audiologist in person for a thorough examination of your hearing.
At Bay Audio, our highly trained and qualified clinical team will provide you not only with a comprehensive hearing test, but also offer an exceptional level of customer service so you can be confident your hearing health is in good hands.
What can I expect during my hearing test?
Your Bay Audio audiologist will administer a thorough hearing test evaluating your hearing sensitivity and responses to speech.
Our tests encompass a range of audiometry, utilizing state of the art technology. After a chat with our audiologist, your ears will be examined and your hearing test will be administered in a painless and non-invasive manner, involving test tones being played to you through a headset or earplugs. The test lasts for about 30 minutes. Once our audiologist has completed your test, they will discuss with you the next steps to take, whether further medical referral is required or hearing devices are necessary, your Audiologist will advise you of the most appropriate course of action.
Hearing loss is measured in decibels (dB) by one of our expert Audiologists when you attend your hearing test appointment.
Once your hearing test is complete, your results will be displayed on an audiogram (a chart showing the results of your test). Your audiologist will talk to you in detail about your results so that you feel confident in the health of your ears and your hearing ability so that you can regain the joy of hearing.
They will answer any questions you may have and take you through what the next steps are, including recommending the ideal hearing device, should you need one.
How we measure hearing loss
Hearing tests measure your ability to hear different pitches, sounds and frequencies.
To determine this, Bay Audio’s hearing assessments include the following tests:
- Pure-tone audiometry utilizing air and bone conduction methods
- Speech audiometry and impedance audiometry including tympanometry and acoustic reflexes (when required)
- A simulation of enhanced hearing for customers that present with a hearing loss. This process incorporates live voice assessments and exposure to real world environments, allowing customers to experience the best hearing outcome possible, this can highlight deficiencies in hearing which may have been missed for years
Hearing loss is typically broken down into degrees of hearing loss detailed below:
